What is Trauma Informed Yoga?

Any kind of trauma, domestic violence included, can live in a survivors body long after the abuse has stopped. Our bodies store memories of abusive behavior and often can leave survivors feeling disconnected from their own bodies. By using the fundamental elements of yoga, mindfulness and breathing, instructors help victims of violence tap into their own present moment.Instructors who are trained in this practice are incredibly aware of nuances of teaching those that have gone through trauma. For example, touching people without their permission is the greatest potential trigger for people in yoga classes. Instructors don't assume and give students a chance to decline and avoid approaching anyone from behind.

This practice creates a framework that allows a safe space for victims and also helps a survivor feel empowered!
